Puerto Nariño

The Colombian Amazon

The Saloon

08/23/2011

In November 2011 I discovered the small jungle village of Puerto Nariño. It is located in the southwestern tip of Colombia near the borders with Brazil and Peru on a narrow side arm of the Amazon River. It is best to get there from Leticia. The boat trip up the Amazon takes about two hours and goes several times a day.

It seemed to me that it was a Frontier town. A town in the wild Wild West, only with a lot of rain and with jungle around it instead of the dry desert.

When I was there, some of the residents were preparing an election and hanging up posters in a place, I would call saloon. This saloon was a mix of restaurant, mini department store and place to stay.

I had Fujifilm’s new X100 with me. A camera, made for the scenes that can be seen here I guess.
